Is it possible to end or at least seriously reduce the incidence of bullying and violence in schools, and encourage teens to avoid joining gangs and committing murder and criminal behavior?
Bullying, for example by picking on an overweight classmate, taunting and teasing him/her and not feeling anything is wrong with it. What if the teacher were to explain to the class how the bullying effects the victim, possibly leading to low self esteem, hatred or at least encouraging resentment and hatred, (misanthropy), or even suicide. In rare cases it can strengthen the victim to the slings and arrows suffered by him/her, with the proper input by teachers and caregivers, but encourages a misanthropic (disliking others) attitude in the victim or a vengeful attitude.
Why not begin teaching even in the lower grades, things like the fact of our love of scapegoating others because it releases tension on us and transfers it to the person or person scapegoated. Like when we are punished by someone in authority - which may or not be scapegoating - for something we feel wasn't that bad or even for something we didn't do, we then pick on someone else or kick the cat or whatever. Our propensity for needing to be right in our own eyes - see mistakes were made but not by me by "Elliot Aaronson and Carol Tavris"-. That our psychological need for identity and belonging often makes gang membership and hence macho ism look attractive, it attracts attention, but leads nowhere fast, and leaves a lot of broken hearts and unfulfilled hopes and dreams I know one mother who 3 years after the fact still lives with a broken heart! Underprivileged students that are looked down upon - oppressed - will tend to act out in revenge and seek power of some sort and a sense of identity and belonging for instance, by joining a gang, or being disruptive or whatever. The fact that imitation is double edged sword and can lead to violent rivalry, depending on who or what you imitate,and the fact that most conflict and violence is "triggered" in our sub - conscious. Not to say that our sub-conscious is in any sense without merit, but it does harbor a dark side.
There is an overwhelming amount of evidence that unnecessary division and violence originates in our subconscious and is triggered by a host of feelings and sensations, like unhealthy envy, jealousy, rivalry etc., which I put under the umbrella of the satanic constellation, these feelings and sensations were called variously snare, trap, stumbling block and scandalon by Jesus Christ in the Bible. The following is an example of how the damage is done and how negative envy, and so forth, most often becomes a negative part of our personality and consciousness.
Before I proceed with the example where admiration can turn into conflict division or violence not to mention how it can encourage misanthropy, depression hatred, racism etcetera, etcetera; lets consider how, as we experience the effects of the satanic constellation, we lose our childhood innocence.
Psychologists agree that children see things - say an argument that turns into into a fight - as they occur without bias or opinion, that is called seeing anthropologically, what actually happened, adults on the other hand see things politically, they see what happened influenced by their conditioning - software of the mind - if the adult is white and the fight was with a person of colour, the white person will tend to be on the white side and rationalize that side of the fight, and the same applies to the person of color's response. This enables us to understand what Jesus Christ meant when he said "unless we become as little children we shall not experience the kingdom of God".
Lets see what happens as we begin to respond under the influence of scandalon and begin to accumulate elements of the satanic constellation in our subconscious and lose our innocence, our most attractive characteristic in the following real life daily experience!
Say there's someone in your class who gets high marks or is a chick or guy magnet or whatever, he/she notices your admiration and begins to flaunt his/her imagined superiority to you, you either become jealous - subconsciously or openly -or you begin to dislike or hate the person, because he/she made you feel inferior, while they felt superior. This moment was a moment of pain for you and your mind defends itself by delegating that feeling along the pathway to the subconscious, to become part of the person you are. On the other hand if instead of falling into that trap you shrug your shoulders and carry on, a little disappointed but not scarred, you have experienced a universal truth. These are mostly ancient and somtimes pri-mordial reflexes that better served us in pre-historic times.
We mustn't forget that we are the result of 14 billion years of evolution, that our bodies and mind are of the most complex and beautiful designs that the universe has ever produced and that we really live in the garden of eden; everything that we need is here on earth. But because we think politically and not anthropologically, amongst a few other non-productive elements of our psychological selves, it's turning into hell here on earth.
Whatever you think of religion, know that amongst prophets Jesus Christ, who's God was a God of forgiveness, love and compassion, justice and above all else, truth and non-violence, promised us a return to the Garden of Eden, the Kingdom of God. He said "I come not to bring peace but a sword" for you have to fight for the Kingdom of God. And as for the lesser aspects of the Bible, we must realize that for all of it's faults it is a historical record of civilization's rise from darkness to the struggle for light and as such Jesus in the New Testament throws light in all directions. Not to say that the Old Testament is without insight and wisdom, so we must take the wheat and leave the chaff. Other Religions claim their place in the search for a creative and constructive existence with their fellows and I can't judge their success, but I do know that the Holy Bible is open to all mankind, bar none.
Let it be known that getting involved in dealing drugs and being ripped off is the ground of most but not all school and gang murders, because you can't report your loss to the police. Let it also be known that the Christianity that I believe in is not the juvenile version that denies our sensual selves, but one that promotes moderation in all things. And like the observation made by Evil Kenevil years ago that drugs can speed you up, like jet fuel in a motorcycle,but over time will burn out it's motor, and drugs will burn out your mind.
And believe it or not the future lies in your hands, and if you imitate adults in their political correctness - which disguises their true feelings - there is little hope for the future. The Stumbling Block
We hope to search for the truth about us humans, and hope to amass enough evidence to prove, that no amount of laws, transparency, disclosure and legislation is sufficient to alter our destructive and corrupted behavior except temporarily. Our love of polarity empowers our self image and activates our 400 million year old reptilian brain! Our reasoning part of the brain, which enabled us to advance and create this material paradise, is of little use in taming our conflict, division and violence.
Witness the death of the "Social Contract", between nations and even next door neighbors," you don't bother me and I won't bother you"!, just doesn't work for reasons we will search out.
The following should convince sceptics, that our overall intelligence, is losing the most important characteristic, that all life forms except man, posess.
Every living creature has a built in need to survive, no matter what the threat to it is, it will do everything in it's power to avoid it's demise. Bacteria will eventually overcome an anti-biotic that once killed it. All living creatures will adapt, change to the best of their abilities when their survival is threatened, even though their cognitive {reasoning}, abilities are meagre compared to mans.
Man with the most complicated and highest functioning cognitive process, seems unable in most cases to avoid putting himself un-necessarily in the line of fire.
All this is due to the control the negative aspects of his psychological self has on his behaviour, cognition, reasoning and actions.
Lets call the interference - the stumbling block - the negative aspects of the "software of the mind", those things that prevent him exercising intelligently and creatively his will to survive.
They include but are not limited to the following.
His desperate need for identity and belonging, which is a double edged sword, when what you identify with or belong to has a destructive or negative narrative...Our need to be right in our own eyes, see Proverbs 21: 2...When we identify with a certain belief (one leaf) and it becomes, for most, something we would defend no matter what the cost...our love of scapegoating others when they do something wrong, but when we do the same we rationalize it...our strongest natural characteristic is mimemis, {imitation} whithout which we couldn't have created culture or even learned language, but imitation is again a double edged sword, depending on who or what we imitate...the tendency for close friends to desire the same object {mimetic desire} and if it cannot be shared we often become rivals, unleashing negative envy, jealousy and often ending in conflict, division and violence, often turning good friends into bitter enemies...our increasingly selfish greed...extreme ambition and competition...those who become extremely narcissistic and egoistic.
Most of the negative aspects of the above lead to conflict, division and violence and are an impediment to survival, which I put under the umbrella of the satanic constellation and which Jesus called scandalon in the Bible.
So it seems our own negative side of human nature our neg. psychology is taking us down the river without a paddle...
This is the basic contradiction that is preventing mankind from doing the right thing, and living in the garden of eden, and experiencing an overall joyous life. It's also preventing us from solving or even dealing with the real problems facing us. It's obvious that society as whole is unadjusted or worst, and unless we realize that we've been wrong about a lot of things, chaos, like violence, can only escalate to extremes.
